Give and Take

In a relationship, both side should either give or take. Not give and give. Not take and take. This will give each a chance to express his/her love. A colleague shared me someone's view about relationship - which I think, personally, true.
What a girl needs most is love. What a guy needs most is respect. The most important thing for a girl is her heart. For a guy it's his ego.

Watching 3D Movies at SM Cinema

Today we saw Resident Evil 4: Afterlife at SM cinema here in Baguio. Me and my wife chose to see the 3D show rather than the regular one. We didn't mind paying the extra Php150 to see the 3D movie since it's a great movie which we followed since the first part went out 8 years ago.

We went in the cinema 30 minutes early so we had a pick where to sit. We chose the seats second to the last row, center column, orchestra level.

A Child's Pray

Being prayerful is one of the qualities I want to instill to my children. I want them to learn to ask God's assistance and have them know the power of the Almighty above. And that they can ask anything from God as long as they're be a good kid.

A few weeks ago, our company acquired Digitel's services to install us DSL connection as part of our "Follow The Sun" model we are following to support fabs globally.

Digitel, after some misunderstandings in the installation date, installed the phone and DSL at our home without me (at the house) since I was at the office. Buti na lang may tao sa bahay. Anyway, they weren't able to test the DSL connection as there is no power during that time.

After a few days or so, I am still waiting for digitel to go back to our house and set up the DSL. "It is taking them long to install", I said to myself. So I went ahead and had set it up by myself. Besides, I have a little background in doing so since I worked for PLDT as an intern installing the same services.

There's a buzz in town. And facebook may not like it. Yep, facebook could have some competition in the social media arena. Being one of the top social media hit, facebook, has been the favorite. Here in the Philippines, so far, it's quite popular. Everyone I know and everyone that I meet has one.

Facebook has been the favorite social platform of many. It connects people from different parts of the world. Heck, I found my elementary classmates in facebook. I even found someone back then whom I always have a crush on

Competition: A Double Edged Blade

Posted by Wyrlo Labels: , ,

2

They say competition occurs naturally between organisms in the same environment. Where survival is only for the fittest or something like that. Where individuals aim to get what they deem or think they deserve. Where certain species live or die just to compete.

Competition is everywhere. Whether in sports, entertainment, or work, laging may kasamang competition. Hindi siguro natin maiiwasan ang magkaroon ng ganyan. Lalo na kung ang isa ay hayok sa ganyang scenario. Where that individual acts that there's no tomorrow and everything he [or she] does must be on his [or her] advantage. Dahil siguro parang mamatay na siya kung lilipas ang isang araw na hindi niya maramdaman sa sarili niya na nangunguna siya sa lahat ng bagay.

Is competition good or bad?

TI Getting Into The Tablet Wagon

With all the fuzz and massive battle around the tablet arena, from HP, Dell and to other major tech companies, all got into the tablet wagon.

Now, another has joined the party - Texas Instruments (TI).

Yep, TI will be going to release a tablet named Blaze. Now, with that name we expect it to be fast and packed with cool and amazing features. And looking at the below list of features made my jaw dropped and burned my geek and techie desire inside me.

TrueCrypt: Even FBI Can't Crack It!

I was first introduced to the free encryption tool, TrueCrypt, when I searched for a tool to encrypt my USB flash drive that contains some "sensitive" stuff that I don't want someone else eyes to pry on. The cool thing about truecrypt is that, it is so secured. The encryption quality it gives is so amazing.

In fact, the encryption is so amazing that even FBI - yep, FBI of the United States - can't break the encryption even they took years to do so.

Updated: LastPass Indeed The Last Password You'll Ever Need To Remember

Posted by Wyrlo Labels: , , ,

I have been looking for a password manager that I can use that is very secure and easy to use. I tried KeePass but every time I use it, I need to go to the UI and get the password then go to the browser and paste it in. Hassle isn't it?

Well, for some time I am using the lastpass extension from lastpass.com and for quite some time, I am loving it. The first thing I wanted to know is how secure is it? How safe my passwords to them? Well, I did some checking and a bit of research, as well as reading some user reviews and some forum discussions. Then I came to a decision to go and try it.

After visiting Mozilla's website, it looks they have released the beta version of their 4th version of Firefox. I quickly downloaded it and viola!

The new version of the well know browser, for its high quality both in security and customization, looks cool and even more snappier from previous versions. Below are some of my first impression on the new version.

Another Year Have Passed

It is my birthday today and nothing special is happening. Though, I think, my wife is going to cook, I kinda feel that today is just a normal day. Aside from my colleagues broadcasting to everyone that today is my birthday, nothing is new. Everything is the same. And all I feel is dull and bored. I need something exciting. Something out of the ordinary activity. Something different from what I used to do every birthday I had - ang manlibre o kaya magpakain sa labas.

Since I was little, every birthday namin, my Father sees to it na may handa kami. Kahit konti basta may handa. Konting pansit, tinapay, isang litrong coke, cake, at ice cream. Tama na iyan para sa akin. But as years passed by, sometimes it gets you. You will feel the "is-there-anything-different" feeling because you used to experience this in a long time. So, I guess something different would not hurt.

Trip: Bohol, Philippines

Bohol. Land of the Tarsiers, Loboc River and of course the famous Chocolates Hills. For the last 8 days, me and my family toured Bohol.

Our main destination is Candijay, Bohol. My wife's birthplace.

The next day, since we arrived, we started to visit places. Here goes...

Change Is Inevitable

I often hear change is good. That change makes the world move forward. That in life, change makes you into two different being. Either you become good or the opposite of it. Either you become something or you become nothing at all.

We can never hinder change. And most definitely we cannot prevent it. We live in this world where change is constant. Where change makes change.

On a little side note of trivia, did you know that there is what we call the study of names? It is called "Onomastics" from the greek word "Onoma" which means name. According to behindthenames.com, onomastics is a field of study which touches on linguistics, history, anthropology, pyschology, sociology, philology and much more. Astig! May bago akong nalaman.

The next stop for our trip in Zambales are Anawangin Cove, Capones and Camara Islands. Located at San Antonio, Zambales, these three destinations are part of Pundaquit famous spots. One spot that we haven't visited due to time constraints is Nagsasa Cove. They said that it is pretty much the same with Anawangin Cove but less people. Probably because it is twice farther than Anawangin.

Trip: Potipot Island, Zambales

Posted by Wyrlo Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

We took advantage of the 3-day holiday we had last April 1-3 and packed our bags then headed straight to the land of Sweet Mangoes - Zambales. It was hot but for all we care. T'was the sense of adventure that we felt that even the scorching sun won't prevent us from going. Besides, this is our chance to get out of the pressures our job entails.

First stop, Potipot Island. A small island located in Uacon, Zambales. With its white sands along its shores and the blue sea and green trees, this island will leave you in awe. You can clearly see the life under the water without submerging yourself. Well you can see more of course if you do. Anyway, we spent the night in Potipot and slept in tents.

Family Man

Posted by Wyrlo Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

Most of the time when I meet someone, whether a new acquaintance, or an old friend or a schoolmate, and learned that I am already married with two kids, they'll be shocked and ask me a lot of questions of why(s) or what happened or how did I became what I am now (or sometimes tease me and laugh). Well I guess, as far as I am concerned, I look young to be a family man.

I remember someone I know told me, "Ha?! May anak ka na? Ang bilis ah!". Or, "Ayos ah, mukhang nadale ka agad ah". Or, "Hindi namin ineexpect, ikaw pala mauuna sa batch natin...". Another said, "(I'll be safe) I learned from you...". The last seems there something implied with his statement but I didn't care.

Skin

A philosopher once said, "There's no man in an island". However, isn't it that sometimes it is hard to deal with other people? Hindi ba't ang hirap makisama sa madaming tao na may iba't ibang ugali at iba't ibang nararamdaman? I'm sure there's someone that you find easy to be with but there are others that you find irritating or you don't want any connections to be established. May magugustuhan ka pero mayroon din namang hinde.

There are a lot of things that you should consider. Their attitude, their opinion, their perception towards things and of course their "skin".

Yes, skin. Balat. I think there are different kinds of skin and sometimes it does come in different forms.

A Day of Silence

It's been a boring day today. It was so silent you can hear yourself breathing. Where the only loud things you can hear are the airconditioner's roar and the non-stop clicks of the keyboard's keys.

I've never been this silent before. Except during the days where I feel so sleepy even a gallon of coffee couldn't help keep my eyes open.

In The Real World, You Only Have One LIFE

I stumbled across one of Rico's article in his blog about the growing concern regarding todays world - having a virtual life that affects the real life. I must admit, when I was young I'm one of those who spent so much time and money just to play and level up my virtual characters. I used to spend numerous time playing Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Legend of Legaia, and so many more.

I still can remember how I am always being scolded by my Dad because, all day, all I do is sit in front of the TV and play games. Lots and lots of games. Where I even miss to eat and do some of my chores. Where I always look forward to go home when I am in school because I wanted to reach level 99 and get my weapons upgraded to be able to give 9999 damage.

It's Not the Only Opportunity that Knocks

There will be a time in your life that you will encounter two paths. Each leads you to something. Each leads you sometimes to nothing. But whatever the end of these paths, you need to choose one. I faced this a few days ago. I have to choose between the two. Which one to take. Which one not to.

To get the big picture to what I will be saying, let's say the first path is AA. The second is BB. The thing is, you cannot get both. You really need to choose one. There will definitely be something that you need to sacrifice if you choose AA over BB and vice versa.

A few more strands left...

Going Back Home

Yes, we're going back home. That fast, huh? Well, we're done with what we came here for but it was quite a journey. Experienced everything (well, I guess not everything). Good or bad, it was indeed a great trip. It is true what they say - "It is better (sweeter) the second time around."

I believe I had done what I didn't do the first time I went in Dallas. Surely, the next time I get back here (if there will ever be a next time) it would be different again. Masaya din ang tumira sa US. Maganda pamumuhay, madami kang mabibili. Tamang tama lang sa kinikita mo. Ang mahirap lang ay ang kultura. Ibang iba sa kulturang pinoy.

Dinner at Texas Roadhouse

Sunday night. Gary invited us to have our dinner at Texas Roadhouse. When we are talking about steaks, Texas Roadhouse definitely climbs up to the top. I love the steaks here. Our server told us that they prepare the steaks 24 hours so that it would be fresh when they serve it at night.

Aside from the steaks, the place is noticeable too. With barrels of free fried peanuts, you won't get hungry as you wait for you to get a table because of huge crowd getting to the place which generally means its popularity.

Here's what they say in there website:

It all began when our founder, Kent Taylor had a vision of great steaks, killer ribs and ice-cold beer at a price that families across America could afford.

Sunday Lunch at Twin Peaks

Meet Kim. She's working at Twin Peaks part time as she's working her way up to college. She's new at Twin Peaks....She's our server....She's our....wa...w..w.

What the hell just happened?! Focus! Focus! Focus!

Anyways, yeah, after church we decided to go climb up those peaks again - Twin Peaks. Naahh! Just kidding. We had our lunch there. We figured Hazel hadn't had the chance to get into Twin Peaks last time because she's so busy "resting" at the hotel due to "unforeseen stiffness" she experienced a few days back.

Well, I ordered some chicken breasts. The others ordered chicken fried steak. We had a good meal. While waiting for the hotel shuttle, Hazel did some hula-hoops while Anjay was busy taking her pictures. Grex and I were busy with our mobile devices.

Last Sunday at Church

So, we're getting back home. And this is our last Sunday here in Texas. And that usually means taking pictures. Pictures to bring back memories during our trip.

We had a great service and reminisce if everything we did was on God's teachings and laws. Today's lesson was great. Some stroke through. Some kept.

Lunch at Genghis Grill

Nope, this is aint like "Uhmay Khan" we have in Baguio. Wait...am I spelling it right?

Anyway, yeah, we spent our lunch at Genghis Grill again today. And this is our second time really. Last time we're here, Sei Wei (sorry if I mis-spelled it again) joined us. We just went back because Hazel is drooling over Joey (Hmmm...do I feel something just waved?).

This is what they say in their website:
Genghis Grill-The Mongolian Stir Fry, is a build your own bowl, fast casual, Asian stir-fry concept. The atmosphere is colorful, lively, and a lot of fun! It's actually not a cuisine, but an INTERACTIVE style of exhibition cooking modeled after a centuries-old legend. According to this legend, 12th century Mongol warriors, led by the mighty warrior GENGHIS KHAN, heated their shields over open fires to grill food in the fields of battle!

Hotel Dinner

Aside from the free breakfast, another amenity Staybridge Suites have is a free dinner from Mondays thru Thursdays. The first few nights, we tried having our dinner at the hotel. The food doesn't taste bad for the first few days but after a while you will feel full even by just looking at it.

The usual food they serve are what we call "damo-damo" (grass-grass? weeds-weeds? idk!).

Keeping in the Faith

Even if we travel, we still don't forget to go to Church. As members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, we still perform our duty - to praise and serve God. We go to church every Thursdays and Sundays. Since we were not provided with a car, we commute from work to church every Thursdays. During Sundays, the hotel shuttle take and pick us up at the church. Anjay sometimes joins us as well.

The photos below are taken one Thursday morning at the hotel lobby before leaving to work.

Pool Fools

One of the amenities Staybridge Suites offer is an indoor pool and a jacuzzi. Of course we tried this and had some fun. You will be surprised how water shows people's fears. Say for instance, Grex is afraid of going underwater. As well as the nastiest things where Anjay swam with only his brief...ONLY  his brief. Also some expose like Anjay showed his feelings for Hazel.

Best Lunch at Twin Peaks

Ok...this would probably be the best lunch I ever had during this trip. Having lunch at Twin Peaks is great! Not only the food and ambiance are great but of course...the waitresses! Woohooo!

This is my third time here but every visit is different. Twin Peaks is located at 1700 North Central Expressway Plano, TX. So grab your keys and head on there. Too bad we will miss there lingerie nights starting February 5 to 15, wherein the waitresses wears lingeries as they serve you your food. Now, now, ain't that a treat!

January 18, Sunday. After namin magpunta sa Rockwall, TX, tumuloy kami sa bahay ni Ate Mai to eat sinigang. Siyempre gutom ka sa pamamasyal kaya masarap kumain.

After kumain, Anjay, Hazel, Grex, Ate Vangie, Ate Mai did what is expected...PICTURES!

Lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings

Lunch again and my team mates wanted to try new food Texas can offer. Next stop, Buffalo Wild Wings.

This is what buffalowildwings.com has to say:
Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar is one of the fastest-growing restaurant chains in the country. Our concept is more than a Buffalo, New York-style wing joint with 14 signature sauces, we are also a sports bar, with a full menu featuring everything from salads to appetizers to burgers, and a variety of specialty items. All served in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere where people like to hang out with friends, play trivia on our Buzztime® system, and watch their favorite games on one of our many big-screen TVs.

Anjay and I had our taste of Thai Cuisine at lunch today. Along with Kuya Elmer Abenes and his wife, we had our lunch at Jasmine Thai Cuisine Restaurant.

Thai Cuisine are mostly spicy but sweet but not that spicy than that of an Indian food. Don't want spice? Then there are some thai food here that are not spicy. I ordered the Phad Thai Noodle Soup and the serving is huge.

Wind Burn

Posted by Wyrlo Labels: , , , , , , , ,

13

Yep, there is such a thing. Wind Burn. And it sometimes can be painful. Especially when you're out in the cold without any face mask or something you can cover your lips or mouth.

In anatomy, lips are considered one of the sensitive part of our body due to many touch receptors it have. So it could be painful if you have this chapped and dried lips.

How to treat them? Well, putting petroleum jelly sometimes helps. Or using lip balms. There are some medication as well to keep your lips look inflamed. Ask your doctor about this.

So, we arrived safe here at the hotel. Our trip went well despite of me feeling a headache everytime the plane takes off and land. It's like my head will explode from inside. It's probably the pressure or something. I don't know but with this I'm starting to hate flying.

First stop was Narita airport. We arrived around 11:30-ish. There's plenty of time for our next flight so we head to a place called Blue Sky and ate Chinese noodle soup.

It looks good (and like what Naruto's favorite) so we ordered one each.

We're staying here at the Staybridge Suites at George Bush Turnpike. I've unpacked my clothes. Now we're going to get our dinner. Compliments by the hotel. The food for today? Ravioli and Vegetable Salad.

Anyway, below are some of the photos during our trip.

I'm Going Back to GLOBE

Posted by Wyrlo Labels: , , , ,

Yep! I changed my TNT (Talk and Text) number and went back to globe.

I like the new one - the "Globe Tattoo Prepaid". This time I think I'm staying as long as I can. Nahirapan pa akong maghanap ng SIM dahil ang gusto ko nagsisimula sa 917 like I used to have. Nawala na rin kasi yung dati kong number eh. 'Yung 09174590520. Ang tagal din sa akin 'yang number na 'yan. At Autoloadmax* pa 'yan. I think nung college ko pa ang number na 'yan eh. Kaso 'yun nga nawala eh.

Here are some of the promos that I like and most likely pushed me to go back:

  1. No expiration of load. Usual prepaid load has expiration of 24 hours to 5 days to a month. If you don't use it all up by the time it expires, lugi ka. But by registering to IMMORTALTXT10, you'll have 50 text to Globe/TM and 10 text to other network and it won't expire.

  2. Call of 20 minutes for P20. Dito ako natuwa. Ang tagal ng 20 minutes kaya. With this it's like P1/min. 'Yan ang matipid!

  3. Internet and Signal Coverage. Mabilis ang internet walang duda. Hindi gaya ng ibang nagpapanggap na mabilis. Ang signal? Malakas.

Peace! Opinyon ko lang po. Hehe!

New Phone: Sony Ericsson C901

I'm normally not fond of changing mobile phones frequently unless the one I have is nothing but a paper weight. So, after numerous research and lots and lots of thinking, I bought a new phone - Sony Ericsson C901.... and so far, I am liking it!

The photos I took from it was superb for a camera phone. The videos taken from this phone are not bad either. With its 5 MP camera coupled with a Xenon flash, every photo you take has that crisp output.

The phone package contains the standard set:

  • C901 unit

  • Earphone

  • Charger (with socket adapter)*

  • Manuals

* I think the socket adapter was given by the store so I don't know if it is really was included on the original package.

I also got a free Sony Ericsson speaker. Great for listening some favorite tunes if you're tired listening through the earphone.

And, oh, I also got a year warranty on the phone.

Here are some sample photos. The third photo was taken in pitch black with phone set to auto flash.
